A baby rattle is the first object a human being is handed, and it is specified accordingly. It goes in the mouth from the first week, it gets boiled, it gets dropped on tiled floors, and it is audited against an age grade that assumes the worst handling in the category. The moulding is simple; the compliance and the bell unit are where the programme is won or lost.
We mould and assemble baby rattles in food-grade PP for baby brands, nursery programmes and gift-set assemblers, age graded from birth.
The shell is a food-contact grade PP, declared to FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 or EU 10/2011 as the destination requires, moulded without release agents that would migrate. Decoration is moulded-in colour or a water-based print; solvent-based pad printing inks are not used on a part that is mouthed, and where a programme insists on pad printing for colour reasons, we quote a captured-insert decoration instead, which holds the ink between two PP layers.
The sound comes from a small bell or a rattle insert captured between two shell halves, and the retention is the safety question: the unit has to stay inside under the pull and torque tests the standard specifies, because a bell that escapes is a choking hazard. The two halves are ultrasonically welded rather than glued, and the weld is verified on a sample basis per lot by a destructive pull test, because the weld strength is invisible on a passing part. Bell units are also quoted as a separate part for programmes that buy shells and assemble elsewhere.
| Shell | Food-grade PP, two halves ultrasonically welded |

| Handle | Moulded loop or ring, grasp diameter per age grade |
| Decoration | Moulded-in colour or captured insert |

The handle diameter is set by the age grade: a 0-3 month rattle is a grasp reflex object with a slim handle and a large head, while a 6-12 month rattle is held deliberately and can carry a teething texture. The geometry is a design decision that the tool locks in, so programmes should settle the age grading before the tool is cut, because a rattle that grades for the wrong age fails the retailer's audit rather than the child.
Rattles are assembled here or supplied as shells with the bell unit as a separate line item, and the assembly is quoted per piece with the weld verification included. Testing is the line item programmes underestimate: the retention, torque and drop tests are run on a sample basis per lot, and the compound migration test is run once per material lot. We supply the compound declaration and the plant test records; the finished-product certificate in the buyer's name is commissioned by the buyer, which is the standard split in this category.
The same shell family carries a teething variant where the head is textured rather than smooth, and the texture is a tool decision with a cleaning consequence: deep texture holds food residue and cannot be inspected visually. The usual answer is a shallow, regular texture that can be cleaned and inspected, moulded with the same two-half weld so the programme does not need a second assembly line. Teething variants are quoted at the same price as the smooth shell, because the tool cost is in the texture, not the cycle.
Our stacking cups and bath toy programme covers the bath half of the category, and the baby toy category lists the full range.
