Working with a plastic sheet extrusion supplier means buying a forming feedstock, not a cut piece of plastic: the gauge band, the surface treatment and the resin decision all get settled at the extruder before the sheet reaches your thermoforming or fabrication line. Sheet that looks identical on a pallet can behave differently at the forming station, so the specification that protects your process is written before the quotation. This page covers what Chinese sheet extrusion suppliers produce, the specification points that decide forming behaviour, and the commercial terms that apply to export orders.
Extruded sheet is sold by material family, and each family carries its own process reputation:
Ask for the gauge band across the width, not the nominal thickness. A line running 0.5 mm nominal with a plus or minus 8 percent band forms unevenly in a plug-assisted thermoformer, while a tight plus or minus 4 percent band holds plug depth consistent. Width matters as much as gauge: most Chinese lines run 1,200 to 2,000 mm, and wider sheet cuts yield more per web.
Corona or flame treatment decides whether printing ink, labels and coatings will adhere, and its effect fades with time and storage. Specify the treatment level at production, retest after weeks in storage, and confirm which side is treated when the sheet is mono-oriented for label-side printing.
Food-contact and medical sheet needs virgin resin with documented lot traceability; industrial dunnage and liner stock can carry declared percentages of in-house regrind. The line between the two is a compliance question, so state the end use before comparing prices per tonne.
Extruded plastic sheet is quoted per tonne, and the practical minimum is one full run - typically one to five tonnes depending on the line, because a die, gauge band and temperature changeover costs more than the material it saves. Lead times run two to four weeks for repeat orders, and longer when a new die or colour match is involved. When comparing a plastic sheet supplier against a trader, ask who owns the extruder and the die: the answer explains both the price and the response time when a gauge problem appears. Buyers comparing material families can start with the PP vs PE guide, browse the plastic materials catalogue, or search the China plastic factory directory for extruders by region.
