China's plastics industry is not spread evenly — it clusters. Mould making concentrates in one town, plastic machinery in another, commodity resin trading in a third, and appliance moulding follows the appliance factories. Knowing which cluster a supplier sits in tells you what it is genuinely good at, what its local supply chain can support, and which logistics route your goods will take.
The list below reflects the clusters most often referenced in sourcing practice. Individual suppliers still have to be verified — being located in a cluster is evidence of an ecosystem, not of capability.
| Region | What the cluster is known for | Why it matters to a buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Taizhou (Huangyan), Zhejiang | Mould and die making, plastic housewares | Deep toolmaking bench strength; fast tool iterations |
| Yuyao, Zhejiang | Plastics trading and compounding hub | Widest resin grade availability and small-lot supply |
| Ningbo, Zhejiang | Injection moulding, housewares, auto parts | Port access plus a dense parts and tooling supply chain |
| Dongguan / Shenzhen, Guangdong | Electronics housings, precision moulds, consumer goods | Fast prototyping and cosmetic-surface experience |
| Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu | Plastic machinery: extrusion, blow moulding, recycling lines | Equipment builders and their component suppliers in one place |
| Qingdao, Shandong | Appliance and white-goods moulding | Moulders accustomed to large-brand quality systems |
| Xiamen, Fujian | Consumer goods, hygiene products, electronics | Export-oriented, strong container logistics |
| Suzhou / Wuxi, Jiangsu | Precision parts, medical and automotive components | Cleaner rooms, tighter documentation culture |
| Shantou / Chaozhou, Guangdong | Packaging film, sheet and woven products | Cost-competitive film and flexible packaging capacity |
Cluster membership is easy to claim. Verify with the business licence and its registered address, a live video walk-through of the workshop, the machinery list with tonnages, and at least two reference customers in your application. Cross-check the registered scope of business against what the company is selling you — trading companies and manufacturers are both legitimate, but they are not the same supplier.
Usually yes for tooling and specialist processes, because the surrounding supply chain absorbs problems quickly. But cluster reputation does not substitute for verification: every supplier still needs its licence, capacity and references checked.
Yes, and consolidation is common. Goods can be collected at one warehouse, inspected together and loaded into a single container. Agree in advance who bears inland freight, who handles export declaration, and how each supplier's cartons are marked.
Sometimes less, sometimes more. Compare full landed cost — ex-works price plus inland freight, consolidation, port charges and the lead time your inventory plan has to absorb — rather than the FOB number alone.
