PA66 (nylon 66) is a semi-crystalline polyamide chosen where a part must hold stiffness, wear resistance and creep strength at elevated temperature. This category groups nylon 66 resin pellets by grade family: unfilled, glass-fibre reinforced, heat-stabilised, flame-retardant, impact-toughened and wear-modified. State the grade family, reinforcement level, viscosity and end-use compliance, then request a lot-specific COA and the TDS for the exact grade code.
Specify nylon 66 by reinforcement first, viscosity second: the same base polymer behaves very differently at 15% and at 50% glass fibre. Pick the family from the service conditions.
| Grade family | What it changes | Typical uses | Confirm before ordering |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unfilled PA66 | Balanced stiffness, fatigue and wear; lowest-cost base | Cable ties, clips, bearings, housings | Relative viscosity, heat stabiliser package |
| Glass fibre reinforced | Much higher stiffness, HDT and creep strength | Brackets, fan blades, tool bodies | Fibre loading by ash test, fibre length |
| Heat stabilised | Longer life at elevated temperature and humidity | Radiator end tanks, coolant connectors | Stabiliser type, ageing data at temperature |
| Flame retardant | UL 94 V-0, halogen-free or brominated systems | Connectors, terminal blocks, switchgear | Rating at thinnest wall, on Yellow Card |
| Toughened or wear modified | Impact modifiers, MoS2, PTFE or carbon fibre | Gears, bushings, slides, casters | Friction coefficient, PV limit, impact value |
No. Both are nylons, but PA66 melts higher and holds stiffness and heat resistance better, while PA6 processes more easily and finishes smoother. They are not interchangeable without revalidation.
A great deal. Reinforcement raises stiffness, heat-deflection temperature and creep resistance, but cuts elongation and can make weld lines the weak point. See what GF30 changes.
Yes — it is the most common cause of brittle nylon parts. Dry to the grade's specified moisture level with a monitored dew point, and keep pellets sealed. See the resin drying guide.
Acetal wins where dimensional stability in water and low friction matter more than temperature resistance; nylon wins on toughness, heat and wear under load. The POM vs PA66 comparison goes part by part.
Nylon pricing tracks feedstock, intermediates and plant capacity more sharply than commodity resins, and reinforced or flame-retardant compounds carry premiums. Read what moves plastic resin prices before fixing a contract period.
