What a plastic roof tile manufacturer produces
A plastic roof tile manufacturer co-extrudes multi-layer sheets and forms them into wave profiles that replace clay, concrete and colour-steel roofing on low-slope buildings. A UV-stable ASA surface layer over a PVC base carries the weather load, and the layered construction adds insulation and damps rain noise. A synthetic resin tile weighs 4 to 6 kg per square meter against roughly 40 to 50 kg for concrete tile, so the roof structure and the crew both feel the difference. Standard output is about 1050 mm wide, 2.0 to 3.0 mm thick and cut to project length.
Why the ASA surface layer decides service life
UV, not load, ends most polymer roofs. In a plain PVC sheet the UV stabilisers are blended through the material; sunlight consumes them at the surface first, and once they are gone the polymer underneath chalks, fades and embrittles. ASA behaves differently - its acrylate rubber phase absorbs and dissipates UV energy instead of breaking down - so a co-extruded ASA cap keeps the PVC base protected for the life of the tile. Premium caps run thousands of QUV hours with colour change held below a barely visible delta-E, and field service life lands in the 20 to 30 year range. For uv resistant roofing in high-sun or coastal climates, the cap layer is the specification to argue about, not the tile colour.
Fire, load and installation
B1 flame-retardant grades with an oxygen index above 30 are the common specification. Mechanically, the profile carries roughly 150 kg per square meter of uniform load and holds service temperature from about minus 40 to plus 70 C, while the wave's air pocket cuts heat transfer several degrees against bare steel sheet. A polymer roof tile installs with lap screws on purlins: minimum slope around 12 degrees, purlin spacing near 700 mm on 2.0 mm tile, 150 to 200 mm of end overlap and one wave of sidelap. Short-term sheds are better served by plain sheet; permanent, appearance-driven projects justify ASA PVC roofing.
What to confirm with a plastic roof tile manufacturer
- ASA cap thickness and the weathering data behind the colour-retention claim, not just warranty years.
- Tile width, thickness, wave pitch and available lengths for the project slope and purlin layout.
- Fire grade with the test standard named, plus any regional certificate the destination market requires.
- Fastening detail, minimum slope and overlap for the local wind and rain load.
- Colour stability warranty versus service-life warranty - separate commitments.
