Detailed Description

PVC foam board hides its quality until it fails. A board that machines clean on the sample and tear-outs on the production run, or a panel that blisters under the first coat of paint, costs a shop far more than the sheet price suggests. A serious pvc foam board supplier is judged on consistency: density held through the board, a skin that takes paint without pretreatment, and flatness that survives a full sheet on a CNC bed. This page explains the grades, the production routes, and what to confirm before the first container ships.

How PVC Foam Board Is Produced: Celuka vs Free-Foam

The two routes produce boards that look alike and behave differently. Celuka board is co-extruded against a cooling mandrel inside the die, forming a dense closed skin on both faces and a fine closed-cell core. Free-foam board extrudes onto a chill table, so the skin is softer and the cells more open. Celuka takes paint, adhesive and coating better and machines with less tear-out; free-foam costs less per sheet and suits short-life work such as temporary graphics. Most disputes between a buyer and a pvc foam board supplier trace back to the wrong route being supplied for the application.

Where Each Grade Is Used

Specifications That Actually Matter

Density, thickness tolerance and flatness decide whether a board runs cleanly. Typical boards run 3 mm to 30 mm thick at 0.40 to 0.80 g/cm3; heavier boards hold detail and screws better, lighter boards save freight. Ask for the density tolerance — 0.05 g/cm3 either way is common practice — and a flatness figure measured across a full sheet rather than a trimmed sample. A board that bows will lift off a vacuum bed and scrap a nested job, and bowing usually points to uneven cooling during extrusion rather than handling.

What to Confirm With the Supplier

Resin supply and material grades are listed under plastic raw materials, and related converted products sit under plastic products. The guide to plastic material specifications explains how to read a supplier data sheet, and factory-level credentials can be screened through the supplier directory.
